Soon Kingscote will have its own Men’s Shed for the men of Kangaroo Island.
A steering committee has found suitable premises and has affiliated with the Australian Men’s Shed Association. Now it is seeking community support.
This community-based facility is designed to improve the health and wellbeing of all adult males wishing to avail themselves of the service. It will be centrally located behind the movie hire shop on Telegraph Road, with plenty of parking and will be wheelchair and mobility scooter accessible, with disabled toilet facilities. It will have a workshop area, coffee lounge and office with Internet connection available.
Rockhopper Transport will allow rural men to use this building as well. With the implementation of projects similar to other Men’s Sheds in Australia, it is envisaged the place will be self-sufficient within 2 years.
The steering committee has asked BKI members to consider supporting the set-up of the shed, including donations of cash, or relevant equipment and materials for the project.
The Men’s Shed plans to open in October this year, and all donations of tools, shelving, timber and tiles, lounge and office furniture, computers, kitchen and bathroom cabinetry will be gratefully accepted.
An honour board will be built by members to acknowledge all who have given. For more information contact Allan Henderson at email@example.com
